The Skate Ramp is up in the hills of Huanchaco. The government didn’t have the administrative capacity to cope with the housing crisis that left millions of Peruvian families homeless. In La Libertad region, authorities located some of these people onto this very dry land and they had to rebuild their lives. As a consequence, children were put aside while their parents were more worried about surviving.
Children did not have ways to broaden their minds or amuse themselves a little so they were misbehaving and not really embracing good basic social principles for their development. Our volunteers saw lots of potentials there and with a little land donated from the local surf school, built the Skate Ramp to offer a safe environment of fun and also to attract their attention and mobilizing them to become the leaders of the change they need for good.
The main goal of this project is to offer children a space to play and to improve their human relationships. According to many researchers games provide subconscious tools to teach children things that may be useful for them.
