Uganda Youth Skills Training Organization is one of the organizations implementing and committed to contributing to the improvement of young people’s lives through school and community based education as well as devising innovative means for which the target groups can vehemently respond to climate change in response to sustainable skills.
2. CONTEXTUAL ANALYSIS: - Looking at the climate change situations at the global level, a lot of effects are imposing conditional situations on human and earth, Kiruhura district being some of the climate change effects victim. This district is in cattle corridor stretcher and regarded as a semi-arid area, the people are much affected by the climate change. No single man is no longer able to address this situation without the interventions from global village or international bodies. Lot of sufferings on human have been registered in two districts of Uganda,Kiruhura and isingiro, youths, children and women, being the most affected groups.The work camp is now targeting kirugura, this project's success will witness its duplication in Isingiro in 2018.
Furthermore, climate change has also led to disappearance of some of the crops in Uganda, Arabic coffee being the most affected plant as a result of increased temperatures. The whole blame of the cause of climate change is not partially apportioned but goes direct to man and his activities. UYSTO intends to implement the tree planting workcamp project in Kiruhura district because it’s the one with most affected people, by the end of November last year 2016, district authorities had registered over 50 man and 300 animal death cases due to lacking of food, pastures and water as a result of high increased temperatures and severe drought. Following the situation above, Uganda youth Skills Training organization decided to intervene with this global workcamp projects to cause a meaning full impact in the communities.
i. Conducting Nursery bed preparation and management training workshops.
ii. Training workshop about Identifying the local mother trees for seeds harvest for continued project.
iii. Tree planting.
iv. Conducting educational training workshops about climate change, its causes, impact and its innovative means of adaptation and mitigation.
v. Formation of tree planting self-help conservation groups.
i. To mobilize and sensitize communities about the entire project and form community working structures.
ii. To train participants to acquire skills knowledge and competencies in preparing and managing nursery beds.
iii. To show farmers how seeds can be locally collected for the continued process of nursery beds preparation and tree planting at individual levels.
iv. Plant 1000 trees in the communities.
v. To equip 50 household families and 5 schools with information on climate change occurrence, effects and innovative means of its mitigation.
vi. To create 10 self-help conservation groups of 5people for income generation.
vii. To share culture, create and promote international sustainable networking/ collaboration platforms among both world young-youths’ generation and youth organizations for the purposes of development and further youth initiatives formation in the collaboration countries viii. To promote international young people’s workcamp participation organizations, which will have represented the volunteers in the workcamp, to continue their participation efforts in African organizations.
5.OUR MAIN CROSS CUTTING ISSUES TO THE COMMUNITIES: -
