We are a young and dynamic Swiss-based non-profit organization operating in Africa. We support children in need, and we strive to enable them to pursue a sustainable future. We believe that small actions have big effects!
Our objective is to give underprivileged children in Malawi access to the basic necessities that all children deserve; education, food, health care, shelter, and a loving family environment so that they can break out of the cycle of poverty and live happy, productive lives. We believe in the power of education and the potential of all children.
In Malawi we have three projects: a primary school, a nursery and day care program, and a medical center. The local primary school we work with is in our village of Lifuwu. The primary school offers education to children between 7 and 14 years old (Standard 1 to Standard 7). The size of the classes vary between 60 and 170 students. We support the school by sending volunteers and donating learning materials, such as books and pens. The volunteers not only teach but also help to improve the facilities.
We also send volunteers to a nursery school in the village that acts as a day-care center. The volunteers improve the quality of care the children receive through nursery rhymes, games, and by giving them additional love and attention. New ideas and loads of inventiveness are needed in order to encourage active learning for the kids and to keep them occupied. You will also be helping out the local volunteers cook the breakfast (porridge) for the kids, clean the school, and improvde the facility. Anyone willing to help is most welcome!
Lastly, we support a local medical clinic by providing supplies and sending volunteers. The clinic runs public health programs adressing HIV/AIDS and other important initiatives. Additionally, projects related to improving the infrastructure and assisting the clinic staff with medical and administrative tasks can be completed by volunteers without a medical background. Volunteers with a medical background can help the one medical assistant and nurses deal with common disease such as malaria, fractures, infections, HIV testing and counselling as well as assisting pregnant women during pregnancy and giving birth. The clinic also offers outreach services to the neighbouring villages within Lifuwu which are far away from the health facilities as well as supplementary feeding programs whenever the supplies are available.
Our volunteers are critical to the continuity of our projects. Teaching, coaching, loving, listening, playing - our volunteers do it all! Together with our staff, volunteer help our organization reach its goals of providing shelter, food, education, and love to children in need. As a volunteer for help2kids you can be assured of having a meaningful impact on a child, a classroom, a school, a neighborhood, and a country!
