My name is Marjana, and I would like to volounteer in Africa, but I am new to this so I have no idea about anything.

Hi Marjana,

Thank you for your interest in volunteering in Africa.

Usually a volunteer starts by browsing through the projects available on this website for programs that interest him/her. You can chose programs in countries that interest you or decide which country to go to first and then chose a program from that country.

Remember you should chose a program that you have an inherent interest in for example working in orphan homes if you love being around children, teaching in primary school if you love teaching or conservation projects if you are into environmental conservation.

Once you know what you want then you can make the innitial contact with a project host, and then move from there. I would be happy to answer any of your questions or help you with your preparations to volunteer in Africa. You can write to me at gibsonmaina@gmail.com or create a connection with Touch Africa Network on this website.

Thank you again for your interest and i look forward to hearing from you.

All the best from Africa, Gibson

Your responsibilities will depend largely on your experience, but may include some of the following: Going for ward rounds with doctors to examine cases and determine the next line of action, following up cases and ensuring that proper medication is dispensed, helping to take patients' histories and subsequent diagnosis, helping with general consultation activities. Observing procedures, Undertake office administration, health data recording and storage, taking care of patients reporting for out-patient care or on admission Changing bandages and monitoring recovery, checking blood pressure, weighing babies helping with first aid treatment.) and many more projects you can get involve and help make a difference in the lifes of the less fortunate in Africa

HI Marjana,

The best place to start would be to do a project search in the area that you are looking to help.
Then you can contact the organisation directly for more information as well as any other volunteers that have taken part in that project already. You can also find other volunteers that are thinking of volunteering in the same project as yourself on the left hand side of every project page.

This would be my advice as a starting point. The Frequently Asked Questions may also be of use.

Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress!
